Serato Video Scratch: a plug-in for Scratch LIVE

August 8, 2007
Serato Video Scratch is a new plug-in for Scratch LIVE. It allows you to play video files from within Scratch LIVE, controlled by turntables or DJ CD players.

Serato Video Scratch features
- Load and play video files in Scratch LIVE
- Control playback of two video files with turntables or DJ CD players
- Mix the two video files with the TTM 57SL's crossfader
- Choose from several different transition modes, for a variety of video mixing styles
- Select from a variety of effects and apply them to each video channel
- Control everything from the TTM 57SL

What you will need
- Scratch LIVE version 1.8 (free upgrade for all Scratch LIVE users)
- TTM 57SL mixer
- The Serato Video Scratch plug-in

The exact minimum computer specifications will be announced soon. In the meantime, as a guideline, you will need a modern computer, with at least 1 GB of RAM, and plenty of hard drive space. You will also need a modern graphics card. As a rule of thumb, the better the computer performs in 3D gaming benchmark tests, the better the video plug-in will work. Many of the effects will require more processing power - some computers may run the plug-in but not support complex video effects.

Your computer must have a separate video output, as used to connect your computer to a video projector, for example.

How it works
Serato Video Scratch is a seperate application that runs within Scratch LIVE. When launched, Serato Video Scratch will appear within Scratch LIVE, much like the TTM 57SL control panel.

Video files can be imported into the Scratch LIVE library, and loaded onto the virtual decks, just like audio files.

The video file will be played with the same control as a regular audio file - control with turntables or DJ CD players in Absolute or Relative mode, or via the computer/TTM 57SL controls in Internal mode, with full use of cue points, looping etc.

The video panel will show a preview of each video file, the transition and effects settings, as well as the mixed output.

The mixed video output will also be sent to the separate video output, which can be connected to an external monitor, video projector, or external video mixer.

Supported video formats
We will be announcing a list of supported video codecs soon.

Serato Video Scratch uses Apple's Quicktime technology to playback videos. This means that we will be able to support a wide range of formats. We will be conducting extensive testing on each format. The first release will support a limited number of formats, and we will add more formats as each passed our quality control tests.

Availability
Serato Video Scratch will be sold on-line at www.serato.com, and in stores where ever Scratch LIVE is sold. It will be available later this year, and will be sold at a recommend retail of US$199.

We are working on a solution that does not require the TTM 57SL, to be released at a later date.
