How do you swap DJs when using the Rane SL 3?

For those familiar with the Rane SL 1, the Rane SL 3 may seem kind of weird - there are no hardware thrus, so how do you change DJs?!

Easy! Follow the steps below...

1: Power up  

Before you attempt to change over, make sure the power adaptor is on, and connected to the SL 3. This will ensure that the SL 3 continues to be powered, even when there is no computer connected.

 

When powered, the orange power light will illuminate.

2: The change over

Below is your typical change over scenario:
A track playing from Scratch Live on the right deck, and regular vinyl is on the left deck, about to be played for the change over period.

3: The software thrus

Now, click on the thru button in Scratch Live(below the abs rel int buttons) and the channel will change to a thru state, allowing you to hear your thru source (CD or Vinyl).

Once the CD or 12” is playing, just unplug the SL 3 from your computer - the SL 3 will remain in a thru state. Once the USB is unplugged, the other channel will also change to a thru state allowing you to play another(Its clever like that!)

4: Plugging back in

Finally, plug in the next DJ's computer. (The SL 3 will still remain in a thru state)

 

Swapping Computers

Put on some control vinyl, click on the thru button to switch back to Scratch Live mode, and away you go....
