Scratch Live How-Tos
How-to: Troubleshoot Crashes by Josh Lloyd, Serato
Crashing Troubleshooter
This troubleshooter guide has some tips to try and solve crashing problems using Scratch LIVE.
The first step is to ensure you're running the most recent version of the Scratch LIVE software. To check what the most recent version is, go to the downloads page here
Crash Logs
A useful thing to do if you're getting crashing is to send Serato a crash log if possible.
Under Windows XP you need to have Dr Watson enabled to log crash dumps. Read the guide to do that here
For Windows Vista, read the guide here
Under Mac OS X the crash log will be located in ~/Library/Logs/Crash Reporter/Scratch LIVE.log
Upload logs to the Scratch LIVE upload system
Your log will help Serato make the software as resistant to crashing as possible.
Building overviews and removing corrupt files
One thing to try is building overviews for all your tracks, and removing any files marked as corrupt by the overview builder.
To build overviews, disconnect your Scratch LIVE hardware and the main screen virtual decks will be replaced with the overview builder. Click "build overviews" to build them for your whole library. This can take some time with a large library.
Corrupt tracks will be marked with a 'broken' icon:
Renaming database.v2
Another possibility is your database file is corrupt. To test that, try renaming it as follows.Completely quit all programs.
Rename the databaseV2 files in the 'Scratch LIVE' folder located in your 'Music' or 'My Music' folder on your internal drive, and in your hidden '.ScratchLIVE' folder on your external drive (only if you have imported tracks off of an external).
To rename the databaseV2 file on your internal drive:
1. Click the 'Start' menu.
2. Click the 'My Music' folder.
3. Click the 'Scratch LIVE' folder.
4. Rename the 'databaseV2' file to something like 'databaseV2_corrupt'.
To get to the hidden '.Scratch LIVE' folder on your external hard drive follow these directions:
1. Click on the 'Start' menu.
2. Click on the 'Control Panel'.
3. Make sure your in 'Classic' view (if you’re not in Classic view you will see a link on the left of the browser that says 'Switch to Classic View').
4. Click on 'Folder Options'.
5. Click on the 'View' tab.
6. Check the 'show hidden files and folders' option.
Now open up your external hard drive and you will see a grayed out .ScratchLIVE folder (hidden folder).
Open it up and rename the databaseV2 file in there as well.
If this works, it would be helpful to have your database file uploaded to Serato for analysis.
