the song that is killing it right now in LA (mainstream)
Okay folks...help me out. I haven't been able to make it out to any mainstream clubs in months and I haven't done a mainstream gig in months and i have two this week. I trust my own ear, but it always helps to know what songs are getting a great response in the clubs as of lately.
I am not talking about obviously big songs right now like Low, or I Won't Tell or Sensual Seduction...I am talking about songs that mainstream crowds are hip to inspite of limited airplay
So even though I haven't really heard the following songs on the radio yet or that much I am wondering how urban skewing (read most black) mainstream crowds are responding to the following songs:
Gettin' It by The Cook Kids ft. Lil Wayne
Dey Know (Remix) by Shawty Lo ft. Ludacris
Rock With U by Janet Jackson
Pro Nails by Kid Sister ft. Kanye West
Be OK by Chrisette Michelle (seems like ladies would love this)
Ignorant Shit by Jay-Z
Diamond Girl by Ryan Leslie
Whenever You Are Aroun by Jill Scott (seems like a nice early two stepper)
This My One - E-40 and Too Short
Church - T-Pain
These are all mainstream songs that I wouldn't mind playing for whatever reason. Any other suggestion are greatly appreciated...

I like that Gettin It song. They Know is pretty much a staple down here. I got a good response to Pro nails when I dropped it last week. I've been feelin that one for while. I haven't been able to play the Chrisette Michelle at the club yet. Keep in mind that I spin at a bar in Atlanta that prefers more down south music.

Juke ain't gettin' love on the left coast yet. It's much like ghetto tech which never got much love out here. I sure hope it catches on because the Top 40 hits that are being forced fed through the radio these days are trash.

That's a little harsh... Be OK is a great early club song and always gets the dancefloor warmed up at my club along with a few of the others you said "no" to. Some wont fly at peak, but they will keep your crowd planted with drinks flowing during that first 30-60minutes when the night begins.
If you haven't heard "This My One" then I gotta tell you your judgement is a little suspect because that is a peak-time BANGER when/where I spin!

So this comes to prove...like I mentioned about two years ago to various peope and on various forums.....Dance Music is Making A comeback, and I knew that ever since 1,2 step by Missy hit, it would eventually lead to this style of music that could re-open the doors for dance music in the mainstream once again. Just like in reggaeton, when someone decided to try it and became very successful, next thing you know everybody started doing it because it was already a proven success, I mentioned all it would take is one person to try a dance/house/breakbeat and make it successful in the rhythmic top 40/urban/pop genre, and next thing you know the music has once again sped up! I remember back when "gotta get through this" by Daniel Beddingfield came out, right around the time dance music was quickly dying and disappearing off the radio.... There were not nearly enough up-tempo hits in the rhythmic/top 40 category for a radio dj to do an entire 30 minute set without having to slow down. Now this is absolutely no longer the case, and with the new Ne-Yo I heard today, Kylie Minogue might as well not give up because housue can VERY EASILY make it's come back RIGHT NOW if somebody knew how to do it the right way, and no - I'm talking about someone else other than Cascada doing it! I remember back when Pussycat Dolls came out with "don't cha" and back when "sexy back", "lose control", "control myself" and all that came out, I had conversations about how dance was and would slowly return, but no one really believed it when I said that "the beats are getting faster" and soon this is the way things would sound! Well, here we are, with even SNOOP DOGG doing it! Then I hear "drifter" by Shawty Redd, which is also 120 bpm and this new style of music today that's popping up is not really booty bass, electronica, or freestyle/breaks, but a combination of all elements. When I started writing this, D & D remix of Usher "love in this club" was playing. Now "drop" by Yi.......well I guess it's now Colby O Donis...anyway, bottom line is this: There was a time when dance and hip hop were both played on the same station and somehow dance music fell off. Now it's coming back...... Go to my MySpace page and listen to THE FIRST mix on there and you will hear a perfect example of what I mean about the return of dance music. Notice how if I wanted to I could have easily slipped in Armand Van Helden or Paul Oakenfold if I wanted to....and just to let you know, I'm doing this thing where I post new mixes every week, so if you read this late, it may not be the 1st mix on the player anymore so look for "DPR Hitmix 23". Right now, what's playing on 101.5 JamZ in Phoenix as I type? "Emotional" by Casely, Pitbull, and Dj LAZ. It has the elements of "fantasy girl" by Johnny O, that electronic sound with a freestyle beat....a remix I've never even heard of until today. I can't believe what's going on in music - it's only a matter of time before dance music returns.....
Both dance and hip hop were born from the same seed.

How people respond to music in clubs in the west coast is very different from everywhere else, especially here in Az. You can pretty much get songs that aren't yet too popular to work if you know how to put them in the right way at the right time, but if you're looking for people who are more open minded to music, the west coast is definitely not the first place to go, but if this is where your place of residence is, it's normally safe to always at the least play the top 10 or 15 songs on your top 40/rhythmic stations playlists. Just know the uptempo sets don't keep people dancing as long as the slower 90 - 105 bpm music does, esspecially in the west coast - but then again with all these new up-tempo hits and the direction music is going these days, that's probably going to, or is in the process of changing and it is possible to get by doing an uptempo set for an entire half hour. Sticking to what you hear on the radio or what's hot on the charts (in your area) usually works. I notice that Pibull is on NO PLAYLIST in Atlanta right now, yet here in Az. he always has a hit on a playlist somewhere. 955 The Beat in Atlanta, Hot 107.9, and V-103 don't indicate that they've ever played "the anthem" by Pitbull, well at least the last time I checked there was no indication. Yet in New York, I couldn't tell because Hot 97's playlist only said "Anthem" by Pitbull, and it's unclear due to the fact that the has a song called "anthen" and "the anthem". In other words, some songs are regional, and some take longer to hit in places than others. The entire time I lived in Atlanta, they were never big on dance music and missed MOST of the dance hits that came out, yet they played a lot more booty bass than normal. You come to Phoenix in 1996/1997, VERY LITTLE booty bass, and just like Cali, you'd here more latin house, freestyle, and some west coast bass hits with some Dj Taz, Freak Nasty,....etc. (Who by the way, have new hits out NOW.) Since "mami el negro" by Dj Laz ( a latin booty bass hit) was never big in Atlanta, I can see why "The Anthem" by Pitbull isn't hiting there now either. I don't even see any indication of "go girl" by Pitbull there, yet Ying Yang Twins's "drop" is being played there, when they both have a similar house-like beat. What makes this even more bizarre is how Pitbull is from Miami and still crossed over to the west coast, yet I never hear it on any Atlanta station when I stream them. Now Atlanta has new stations, or now one top 40 station that does mix dance music live from the clubs on the weekend, but if they tried that same format here it would not work out, even though we've had a history of dance musc here. Why? Because the east coast somehow is more open minded to music than people here on the west coast. It's due to how radio stations have been programmed and how the listeners have been brainwashed and trained to think about/accept music over the years.

Anything that resembles booty bass, breakz, freestyle, or even mainstream house today will be called pop because people today do not know what dance music really is anymore. Pro Nails instrumental by itself really isn't pop, but with the rap vocals added in and the way the rapping was done converts the entire production into pop. Most of the r&b and hip hop these days can also very easily fall into the pop category because ever since Timbaland came out with his "futuristic" sounding beats back in the late ninety's and everyone started to copy and imitate, r&b, pop, and hip hop began to really start fusing together. R&B was the first to have that "futuristic" sound, with "one in a million" by Aaliyah, then a few months later when people "figured out" how to create those beats, almost everyone started copying and imitating this new sound, making minor differences and changes to make their own style. T.L.C, 702, and plenty of other artists, including pop artists like Christina Aguilera and others were doing it, even on the second Spice Girls album it was heard. (This is most likely where The Neptunes got many of their new ideas as well.) This just happened to be around the time when Ricky Martin opened the doors for the latin pop craze, (that followed shortly after the Backstreet Boys, Nsync, Five....etc) where you heard Enrique Iglesias, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony...etc - who were also using those beats as well. Because people were more interested in these slower beats (that also created a new sound for dirty south "bounce" music), more people started going this direction, creating beats at a bpm half the speed of dance and booty bass music, and this was when the dance music was at it's very begining stages of dying.... We had Trick Daddy "no na'an", "shut up"..etc. "Big Pimpin" by Jay - Z..."is that your chick" - Memphis Bleek.....all kinds of people using that half dance speed bpm, including Drama, Miracle, and Pastor Troy... Then we had these artists that kept the rhythmic bass sound, while still also using the "new r&b sound" which resulted in songs that were half fast, half slow, such as "give it to you" by Jordan Knight, "don't think I'm not" by Khandi, "I like it" by Sammie, and even "Swing my way" by KP&NV...etc. I guess Inoj also had a couple songs like that too...
Flash forward a few years later:
The futuristic sound manages to last a bit, and even in the U.K. you can see how they loved this sound, when Craig David kind of uses it in "fill me in" while still using a 2step Garage beat. This sound Timbaland and Missy had started even changes the way 2step garage in the U.K. would sound.....
Flash forward again, and notice how dance did die, however these futuristic beats did as well, to make room for a more simplified beats, such as the one heard in "yeah" by Usher, "freek a leek" by Petey Pablo, "goodies" by Ciara...etc which was strange, because you'd wonder why instead of getting more creative, different, and complicated with beats, we'd go back to the easy, more simple beats that are so easy for anyone to make or do. For a while, this was once again the next new sound that people jumped on, that Lil Jon sound, which was where the music once again very slowly started speeding up. It was normally between 100 and 106 bpm. This redefined the sound of "dirty south crunk" music once again. Shortly after (give or take a few years/months) 1,2 STEP HITS....
We see that Missy is ready to change things again.... Then if that wasn't noticeable enough, we hit "LOSE CONTROL". Ironically, Lil Jon continues with his beats, but just speeds it up a little with the "My humps" remix. This is when it was pretty evident that people were going to start and continue to speed up to the point dance music or dance-like hits would return to mainstream radio, and it would no longer just be "Toxic" by Britney being the only fast song (with Collipark remix of Slow jamz by Jamie Foxx...)
One by one - Justin Timberlake f/ Timbaland - "sexy back", Nelly Furtado "man eater" / Christina Aguilera "ain't no other man" / LL Cool J "control myself" / RIHANNA "S.O.S"! / Ciara "GET UP!!" Fergie...Pussycat Dolls.................EVEN HILARY DUFF!!!!! ..etc. The people deciding to use faster, more electronic beats start popping up, changing the norm for the average bpm on mainstream radio, forcing dj's to have to find other stuff at a faster speed to mix, resulting in a bit more old school bass hits (such as Ghosttown Dj's..etc) to be brough back in to mixshows, encouraging dance hits to come back to mainstream radio mixshows.
NOW, It's official. The beats have sped up, dance is just about officially back, (despite the lack of Madonna's last album not getting much play) and an incredible amount of people are using the electronic sounding fast beats!! I guess we could say that Timbaland and Missy changed the sound of music, and just as people were getting used to that style, they came back and changed it up again!
I doubt that if it wasn't for "sexy back", a lot of this stuff like "gimmie more" Britney, "the way I are" Nicole S., "feedback" Janet , "drop" Ying Yang Twins, "go girl" Pitbull....etc. probably would've not popped up at the time they did. If it weren't for "Lose Control", "fergalicious", "get it shawty", "PRO NAILS", "boyfriend girlfriend"...etc probably wouldn't have surfaced now either...and I doubt that if 1,2 step were not successful, they would have never gone as far as "lose control".
Maybe it will never be back to the sound of Real McCoy, La Bouche, Scatman John, No Mercy, Amber, and them, but the new sound of dance may have arrived, more on the breakbeat/freestyle side. Maybe Jocelyn Enriquez, Angelina, Lina Santiago, Lil Suzy, Rockell, Jossette, Planet Soul style of dance and the bay area sound of freestyle may not be what's big today, but just wait until someone decides to throw in an electro sound along with the new uptempo sounding beats of pop and r&b today. It may be the new sound of freestyle dance. We are at the point where ANYTHING COULD EASILY HAPPEN and it will only take one small thing to change the sound of music once again. Rock and Roll had it's big break. Disco had it's big break. Blues Had it's time. The boy band/5 people group pop sound had it's little time. Now HIP HOP is at it's peak. What will be next? These changes might be a clue to what's to come.
WHATEVER IS TO COME WILL INDEED BE INTERESTING.

I did forget to mention when Pitbull and Nina Sky hit the scene, but..... that's a different story. The Reggaeton craze caused quite a bit of things to change...Notice MTV has more latino catering music shows. Notice the rise of Subelo Reggaeton and Daddy Yankee show... Notice the amount of Reggaeton stations and top 40 spanish stations that popped up as a result........etc. It was neat to see this happened a little after Sean Paul popped in with the dancehall reggae, then Kevin Lyttle, and all of them popped up..
ONE thing can make a BIG difference in music, and you never know when that one thing may pop up and change the sound....
Just 3 or 4 years ago today, "Pro Nails" would have NEVER had a chance if it were created exactly the way it was today. 9 or 10 years ago, it would be a BIG hit in the Booty Bass/Dance and even hip hop music category. Today though, things have changed, so it's pop (But in reality, contains every element that the songs that helped in the creation of hip hop had. It's almost a combination of the late nineties dirty south bounce style, with the screwed up vocals in the chorus, with Planet Rock elements all combined, with a semi-old school style of rapping. A lot of history has been put into that song.) Oh - and it's half fast, half slow too.
Ten years from now, just wait and see what your old school at noon will sound like on your HD RADIO.....well, maybe not always at noon anymore because satellite and internet radio cover too many time zones...but when all the new old school hip hop stations start popping up, featuring the best of the 90's 00's and today, Lite Hip hop (Just like lite rock), oldies hip hop....etc. You will notice some things when you listen back to today.....
In 3006, what will they consider the best of the 80's and 90's?
It will most likely be music from 2080 and 2090. Today's music will most likely almost be all completely forgotten, with the only thing saving some of it is the revolution of technology to save music charts worldwide, that we did not really have in the 1930's or 1940's. This is the only reason why today's music seems to last longer than the music from the 30's and 40's.
Crank Dat Soulja Boy and Ay Bay Bay may completely fall off the radio by this time next year, and Pro Nails may never even make it to old school. Whether or not any of Soulja Boy's hits will make it to old school is questionable.

It is checked daily and every payment situation is handled very quickly. Direct CC payments are on the page but it is FAR easier to just use Paypal in the future.

I already emailed three times before writing anything here, but figured there's possibility I could get a response here first. I probably should update my paypal info so I can start using my new card through them as well. Ironically, even though I didn't pay through paypal this time, when I call my card company, it shows the transaction is listed with paypal. I'm just confused with all that happened....but I'm not trying to discredit any company......well at least not right now, because so far no one knows what may happen next. Saying something here shouldn't really hurt anybody. As for me, if I saw this posted somewhere I'd most likely end up visiting the site and discovering that Mike D remixes are available there because this is the first place I've found those remixes. Most of those remixes don't even come up on google.

As far as the transaction fee and reloading card fee, that was the idea of the card issuers to create those extra charges for using the card. Strictly Hits had nothing to do with that.
I am still wondering in the mean time where else the Mike D remix of "the way I are" is? I used to want "promise" by Ciara Mike D remix, but now I got over that and see that it may not even be a classic so I'll pass because I really only had money on this card for the intention of purchasing all the new U.K. releases that are supposed to hit next week....

The Folks(esp. Catherine) at Strictly hits are real honest and fair. I have paid through pay pal before, and my order was stuck on 'pending' thus resulting in my inability to download the tracks... but after emailing the strictly hits support email address, Strictly hits did not have a problem reversing any double charges and such.
Sometime it may take 1 day to get a response, but they will clear up any issues and offer refunds if requested.
* also, I have not had any issues when I paying using the credit card payment option as opposed to the 'pay pal' option.

I think mine was stuck on "pending" the last time I checked. Wasn't sure exactly what that meant.
I'm just very weary whenever I make a purchase online if I sense at the slightest that something may go wrong. $1.99 in reality is not a big deal, but the thing is that I had my original plans of purchasing the new U.K. music that's supposed to hit Stereotype Recordings next week, and due to the extra charges my card likes to throw in, I made sure that I had a specific amount of money on that card for that, however, I just discovered Strictly Hits and found out that they had the Mike D remix of "the way I are" I've always wanted and couldn't find. I figured it would be worth it to buy the track and spend the extra three dollars charge to my card that will occur for making that purchase and reloading the card to replace the money I spent to get the 2 step garage next week. When I replace the $1.99 back on the card, I'll be putting that on, in addition to paying an additional $2.00 for the reloading fee the card people love to charge for each reload. How it comes to $3 is because the card issuers also add on a dollar for every purchase I make. It still beats having to pay $5.99 or more for a c.d. single like it was at stores back in the day! Not to mention, if it was an import, it could be up to 10 bucks in stores! (thank goodness for internet)
I may just have to stop using this card and get a regular bank card because I just found out the U.K. shop when translated into American money, all those mp3 releases next week will be $2.55 each and..... A lot of stuff I want is coming out. So it looks like I would've still had to add on to the card whether or not I purchased Mike D's "the way I are", because when I planned out how much to put on my card for next week, I was going by the U.K. prices in Pounds and not American Dollars, thinking it was all .99 or $1.25 for high quality. I guess 1.25 in Pounds equals out to $2.55....or....whatever.
I sure do hope these new U.K. hits are successful there because it's about time 2 step garage returns to the mainstream in the U.K. I see it's being played on Sub-Jam 104.7 in the U.K. and getting response, especially the track by Danny Dubbz. Bassline, 2Step, DubStep, 4x4, Garage...hopefully this is going to be part of the next step in the future sound of R&B in the U.S... makes me wonder if this is where Danity Kane, Rihanna, and some other artists got some of their ideas from.

Man! I really don't know about that "Promise" Mike B remix! I sure hope he re-uses that beat on another song because I really like that remix, but I see that out of all the Ciara songs that are on the radio, "promise" disappeared the quickest! Now I don't even know if I should get it. Even "so what" by Ciara is still getting played. I've heard the Mike B remix of "promise" in mixshows quite a bit though, but.... If I played it next year at this time, I wonder if it would care? The remix should have been the original. I think Mike D should just give that remixed beat to C-Side.
