I have 2 technic turntables, Numark mixer, IBM T42 laptop, I can import music to serato and I can see it imported and spinning but when I put the needle on the record all I here is the control signal. All hardware is set up correclty based on instructions and videos watched online. If I hook turntable up through LINE outputs I can hear mps but its very loud, distorted and muffled,,

Hello dst1200,

If your hearing the control tone through your headphones/speakers then your listening to the 'thru' outputs of the SL1.
You need to be listening to the 'line' outputs.
Also, make sure the 'line' outputs are plugged into 'line' inputs on the mixer.
Not phono. Running the line outputs into phono inputs will cause the signal to distort.

Let us know if your still having issues and we'll go from there:)

Zach,,

thanks for the quick response,,

just to be clear ,,from the turntables I should be going into the LINE of the serato box and from the serato box I should go into the PHONO of the mixer or the LINE of the mixer??

thanks again!!

The 'line' outputs of the SL1 need to be plugged into 'line' inputs on your mixer.
That is what SSL plays out of.
The 'thru' outputs need to go to 'phono' inputs.
You would want to listen to the thrus when you were playing regular records.

The phono inputs is what you'd want to listen to if you were playing regular records through your Rane hardware.

This is because your playing in REL mode.
REL mode doesn't pay attention to the position of the needle on the record so you could be playing the beginning of the record but be 3 minutes into the track in SSL.
If your wanting to needle drop then either use ABS mode or check the option in the Vinyl Control tab for 'drop to absolute position'.

You must be using an older version of the software.
Download the latest version here --> scratchlive.net

You should see the option in the Vinyl Control tab once its updated.

Make sure the 'lock playing deck' is unchecked in the Playback tab of setup.

They should save automatically.

1,2,3,4,5 for the left deck, 6,7,8,9,0 for the right deck.

Cue points are stored in the files themseleves, just copy the files to the new computer and the cue points will still be there.

Are you importing your music from your internal or an external drive?
What type of files aren't saving cue points?
Please upload one of these files via the 'attach a file' link in this thread and we'll take a look at it.

I'm importing the files from an external hard drive, the drive in the laptop is not that big so I keep the music on an external drive connected via USB.

The file types are mp3, downloaded from the web from various torrent sites and ripped from Cds,,NOT iTunes, rhapsody or any other site downloads.

I have attached one of the files, as I am sending this from work this file is NOT one that I actually tried to save cue points too, but its the exact TYPE of file I'm using to mix with. If you need the EXACT file I can attach later tonight when I get home.

The file you sent has no problems storing cue points on my computer.

How much room do you have left on the drive your importing music from?

This file works fine for me which leads me to believe there is an issue with your external drive storing info.

Try moving the file from your external to your internal, import it into SSL, create some cues, shut down SSL, and re-open it to see if your cues are still there.

Make sure you turn off the "playback keys use shift" option, otherwise you have to hold shift plus press 1,2,3,etc.
