DJ Biznizz
DJ Biznizz was the original DJ for the legendary UK Rap group The London Posse with whom he toured the UK and Europe. He then went on to DJ for the UKs first female Rap group The Cookie Crew with whom he also toured the UK and Europe supporting artist such as De La Soul, N.W.A, Public Enemy, House of Pain, Roy Ayres and The Jungle Brothers to name a few. The Cookie Crew's achievements included top 40 chart success with their acclaimed cover single of the Roy Ayers classic 'Love will bring us back together' which also featured Roy himself.
DJ Biznizz was also the DJ for Mcm (formerly known as Caveman) who also had great chart success along with the Cookie Crew with his version of Jimi Hendrix's 'Cross Town Traffic'. After firmly establishing himself within the UK Hip-Hop world, he was approached to be the mix-DJ for The Capitol Rap Show hosted by Tim Westwood, with which he acquired much European acclaim from radio listeners for his live mixes. After several years of success the show then moved to Radio One. DJ Biznizz stayed on board for another year, by which time he had decided to move to other pastures where he could showcase and develop some of his other talents.
Biznizz got a good break when world-renowned saxophonist Courtney Pine's tour DJ (DJ Pogo) couldn't go on tour due to other commitments. Pogo didn't hesitate in asking Biznizz to step in as the two have been and still are working together. This exposed Biznizz to a whole new audience as well as a whole new musical experience performing.
With groups such as The Cookie Crew, Caveman and The London Posse, DJ Biznizz showcased his talents as a Producer as well as doing remix work for House of Pain, N.W.A, Jade, 4Hero and Mark Morrison. DJ Biznizz, then went on to release 3 EPs and an LP with his own group the PD3, consisting of Mysterious K, Dego from 4Hero and DJ Biznizz himself. Their LP 'Does anybody really know what time it is?' received very impressive sales, especially in Japan.
In the mid 90s, Biznizz was introduced to the talents of Jonzi D and his Hip Hop theatre where the combination of his DJ skills and Jonzi's theatrical talents would go down a storm.
Alongside the Lyrical Theatre with Jonzi D, DJ Biznizz would also perform at Jonzi's live talent showcase The Apricot Jam, where a live band would play along side the DJ and rappers, singers & poets would perform.
Now known in the theatrical circle Billy's talents for putting music to movement was brought to the attentions of Claire Missingham choreographer, writer and producer of the all female company BABE, as well as producer/choreographer Benji Reid & Robert Hylton, with whom he now works with.
DJ Biznizz's list of theatre credits includes 'Lyrikal Fearta and Aeroplane Man' by Jonzi D, 'Generation Vex' by Claire Missingham, which he has toured nationally and internationally and 'Urban Classicism' which he performs alongside producer/choreographer Robert Hylton.
In 1999 DJ Biznizz, DJ Pogo and DJ Cutmaster Swift, collectively known as The EN4CERS, entered and won The DMC UK TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS.
A competition where 2 or more DJ's combine there talents collectively to perform a 6 minute show piece.
The crew have been touring and performing at DJ events and competitions such as The DMC World Championships, The Vestax World Championship and the All-star Beatdown.
At this moment DJ Biznizz and his crew the EN4CERS are working on there first solo LP.
The EN4CERS are constantly working with new styles of music and new art forms to try and inject innovation into their art form Turntablism.
Currently Billy is touring Europe with theatrical artist Robert Hylton as well as still working with Jonzi D and new dance theatre group Twitch.
DJ Biznizz and Robert Hylton have also collaborated to produce a ground breaking rock dance solo called 'Verse' and with the backing of the Royal Festival Hall the two along side filmmaker Curtis James have together created a fascinating dance film, 'Two Sugars my Hip Hop Please' with all the participating dancers being 65 years of age and over. This amazing combination of ballroom dancing, tea dancing, body popping and b-boying is a must see short film.
DJ Biznizz has also been hosting alongside his DJ partner Cutmaster Swift at all the DMC heats and finals throughout the U.K. since 1998. For those that don't know, DMC is a company that holds the worlds largest DJ competition with DJ's competing from all round the world and has been holding this competition since the late 80s. In addition to this, Biznizz has been touring with solo artist and Mercury Award nominee TY and is also a resident DJ as well as host at SCRATCH a monthly Hip Hop night in London.
DJ Biznizz never stands still and has many future projects in the pipeline, including an album in conjunction with Robert Hylton, which will be an eclectic mix of all the styles of music enjoyed by the two artists.
"For all those lovers of 2 turntables a mixer and the feel of precious vinyl who have embraced this technology, we now have a new challenge, to boldly take Turntablism where no laptop has taken it before."
